Eulenspiegel Presents

Family Puppet Making Workshops

Eulenspiegel Puppet Theatre would like to invite you and your favorite young friend to their series of Family Puppet Making Workshops this winter.  Family Puppet Making Workshops are a great way to connect with a special young person in your life.  There will be a creative project for you to help your youngster create at each session. The session dates and activities are as follows:

Sunday, January 17th 1-3pm Creating Hand Puppets and hand puppet manipulation.  Make your very own hand puppet with a soft sculpted head with a technique you will be able to recreate at home. You can make many different kinds of animals and people with this technique. The body will then be constructed out of a piece of fabric from our extensive collection. After you are done, there will be time to make your puppet do many fun and exciting things!  Hand puppets are the most versatile of all kinds of puppets for young puppeteers.  You'll be amazed at what your puppet can do!

Sunday, February 7th 1-4pm  Mask Making! Please wear clothes that can get dirty for this project!  You will actually be making a mask of your very own face!  This means you will have your face covered (excluding your eyes, nose and mouth) for a short period of time in plaster bandages but don't worry, it will be worth it! In the end you will have a mask that fits you perfectly and that you have designed to be any sort of monster, animal or person that your imagination can create!

Sunday, March 7th 1-3pm Design your own Toy Theatre!  These enchanting theatres were a popular form of entertainment in the Victorian living room and are now seeing a resurgance in popularity. Come and make your very own table top theatre with tiny characters for your very own living room.

The cost is $10 per puppet maker and adult helpers are free.   All workshops are held at the Owl Glass Puppetry Center at 319 N. Calhoun St. West Liberty, IA.  Please call to register at 319.627.2487.

COMMUNITY PARTNERS IN WEST LIBERTY

We are so lucky in West Liberty to have such a wonderful group of business and individuals willing to be Eulenspiegel's Community Partners.  Community Partners get publicity at each of the shows at the New Strand Theatre in West Liberty as well as any event that takes place at our puppetry center.  They also receive 2 tickets to any family show at the New Strand or Owl Glass Puppetry Center.  These tickets can be used by the employees of the partnership business or can be gifted to customers.  What Eulenspiegel receives from the Community Partnerships with businesses are a $75 donation and the donation of time by volunteering at one puppet performance or work evening that happens throughout the year.  This is definitely a win-win opportunity! If you are interested in becoming a Community Partner, please contact Chris Martin, Community Outreach Director for Eulenspiegel at eptcoutreach@Lcom.net or 319.627.2487.  Our current Community Partners are as follows:

Midwest One Bank

Filerio Contruction, Inc.

Active Health Chiropractic

SUMMER PARADE PROJECT

Since opening in West Liberty, Owl Glass Puppetry Center has made a tradition of building giant puppets for the annual fair parade. Held on a Sunday afternoon in mid-July (usually the hottest day of the year!), the parade heralds the opening of the Muscatine County Fair and is followed by a community-wide picnic in the park. Everyone in town watches this classic Midwestern parade; everyone, that is, except for the many that participate by entering floats, horses, tractors, and....puppets!

For two weeks before the parade, Owl Glass holds open studio hours for anyone who wants to get involved in building puppets for the event. Participants can work on the giant puppets that form the centerpiece of the parade entry, build smaller puppets of their own to carry in the parade, or help make props, signs, or scenes. Each year 100+ people of all ages have helped, and Owl Glass has won ribbons and trophies every year!
